How We Research
Every guide here starts with one question: will this small refrigerator work for the person shopping for it? For mini fridges, that depends on the room, the space you have and what you plan to keep inside.
Here is how we answer it.
1. We start with your space
A fridge for the garage, a desk corner and a bedroom nightstand each ask for something different.
We check the height, width and depth the maker lists, because a model that is an inch too tall won't fit under a desk. When your space limits the choice, we say what to measure first.
2. We compare specs and features
We look at capacity in cubic feet, freezer type, door swing and whether the door reverses. We also check defrost type, shelves, noise level in decibels, Energy Star status and what comes in the box.
Midea, Frigidaire, Igloo and other makers describe their products in their own words, so we name the brand for every claim. We also note the warranty terms they list.
3. We look at buyer feedback
We read through what buyers report after using a model. We look for patterns, like loud compressors, doors that don't seal, freezers that ice up and units that stop cooling.
One angry review doesn't sink a product. A pattern does.
4. We score each product
Our score weighs specs, features and buyer feedback against what you're shopping for. A product that suits one reader may score lower in a guide written for another.
Scores spread out on purpose. A 10 is rare.
5. We keep pages up to date
Models change, and some disappear from stores. Many have look-alike versions with similar names, so we check each model number and we only link new units.
We skip unknown makers with no track record and any product with a known recall, so we check cpsc.gov before we link a model. When we update a guide, the "Updated on" date at the top changes with it.
What our picks are not
Our picks are research, not lab tests. We don't claim to have used every product we cover.
Noise and temperature numbers are the maker's figures, not ours. We give no medical, wiring or repair advice, and we never promise that a mini fridge is safe for medicine or food in a freezing or very hot room.
Always follow the maker's manual for placement, power and care.
